When I stepped into Boulevard Cafeteria, I was transported into the 1970s and I loved it. I hadn't been to a cafeteria style restaurant in a LONG time and was pleasantly reminded of how nice the experience can be when there is a plethora of food choices and a friendly staff. I really liked the fried chicken and wasn't disappointed by anything I tried, however I did prefer the roll to the cornbread. The food didn't blow me away, but as a whole, I'd definitely say I'm a fan. My favorite part was the xylophone that the cashier played if he needed someone to help a patron with their tray. Everything was decently priced and would be about the amount you'd spend at most other restaurants, around $10/person, depending on how much you get of course.

I absolutely love this place! Best pies in town and everything is made from scratch daily. Old fashioned Cafeteria style... Reminds me of my Memaw. The old pictures of OKC from years ago are way cool too!

What do I love more than a room full of darling elderly folks? A smorgasbord of delicious comfort food, that's what! Boulevard Cafeteria in Midtown takes care of both of these for me in one fell swoop. I first came here for lunch with a coworker who was shocked I actually wanted to go there, until I reminded her that the goal during pregnancy is to maximize food intake while minimizing cost. I was barely in the door before a charming man old enough to be my grandpa told me a joke--I was in heaven before I even got to the food line. I practically grew up at Queen Anne Cafeteria in Founder's Tower until it closed a few years ago. My family honestly mourned the loss of that place like it was a person (we take our food very seriously) and even though Boulevard is owned by the brother of the guy who owned Queen Anne, I never considered this as a replacement for my beloved QA. This is probably one of the nicest things I have ever done for my waistline, as Boulevard definitely fills this void both deliciously and inexpensively. To be clear, you can be healthy here, as another reviewer points out the entire first section is comprised of a variety of salads, you can pick out a lean protein (like a baked chicken or fish), and there are at least 5 veggies to choose from any day. Round that out with a bowl of strawberries with a tiny dollop of whipped cream and you have a colorful and nutritious lunch for under $10. But I tell you now, if you do this every time you come here, you are doing it wrong. The proper way to enjoy everything Boulevard has to offer is to skip the salad (those trays are only so big), grab some fried chicken, add mashed potatoes and either mac and cheese or fried okra, a white roll and a piece of cake/pie/cobbler. What's that you say? This meal is full of carbs and refined sugars? I'm sorry, I can't hear you. I am too busy savoring every bite that takes me back to being 7 years old, eating lunch after church with my cousins with the 'bing bong bing bong' sound of the xylophone in the background. Even if you don't have distinct cafeteria memories like my family and I do, I guarantee Boulevard will take you to your own happy place!

This is a great lunch spot. They have their own parking lot so I don't have to waste time driving around the midtown area looking for a space (which I usually have to do when going to the other restaurants near the roundabout). The food is already cooked so it's just a matter of picking out what you want to eat! I love that since I only get an hour lunch break. This saves so much time. Food quality is much better than what a hospital cafeteria would serve. Portions are much bigger too. They have so many great looking desserts!! I got several sides with some fried chicken and a drink. When they were ringing up my food, I was shocked that the total was only around $8! I see many return trips in the future for me!

I've always loved this place... It's hard to believe but several of us (true foodies) here agree. This place is a staple in my book and has been for years. There is nothing like nostalgia to bring you comfort and this old school cafeteria really does it. I'm always glad that I've gotten one more opportunity to eat here, because it seems like these kinds of places are now mostly extinct. Call it the food because there are a lot of items to choose from, and they have been consistent in making them since the beginning of time. They also have prime real estate with their location, which is why they have a parking guard. You can always find a place to park here and get some comfort food. I just ate here again this past week, and I'm going to keep coming back until I'm old enough to guard the parking lot myself. :)

Thursday night at the Boulevard is great. Live Piano music and good food. very relaxing and sweet. I had the roast beef and it was cooked just right, just little pink. It was very tender too. This is probably the oldest restaurant in Midtown, and it is seeing a resurgence because of the other restaurants in that area. If you haven't been there in a while I highly recommend you go on a Thursday because that is the only night the piano is played. Hope to see you there next week. Don't forget a tip for the piano player.

This cafeteria is in my neigborhood. I have dinner here at least once a week. I have probably tried everything they cook. Favorites are fried chicken, chicken pot pie, turkey and dressing spanish spaghetti. Vegetables are great. Rolls are the best. Some weeks are better than others but in general, this is a very good place to get home cooking style food. Brandon is the best employee, he will say hi to you. Love the retro vibe in the place. Will continue to be a regular.

Not bad! Descent food for cafeteria style eating. Had fried green tomatoes, yummy! Will come here again if ever in need of a place to eat near the hospital.

I very seldom give 5-star ratings. Boulevard attains the maximum in every aspect of old-fashioned cafeteria dining. The food is just what you'd expect at Grandma's house, filling and not light on the calories. My personal favorite is the chicken pot pie. The employees are helpful and friendly and the place is clean while not changing for many years. Be prepared to be the youngest person in the place if you are under 50, especially at lunch on Sundays.

I wish we had more places like Boulevard, but the old school cafeteria is fading away. As other Yelpers note, it is a classic joint and the interior brings you back to the 70's. It's a large dining room, so even when it's crowded (and I've been twice for lunch and it was crowded both times) you should be good on finding a spot. When you enter, you go through the line where you are greeted with around 15 or so salad choices. Both times I've been I have gone with the cucumber and onion salad. Simply dressed with lots of vinegar and some olive oil, the vegetables stay crunchy and the salad is bright. I may get two orders of this stuff next time I go. Then, you arrive at main courses. There are the typical cafeteria favorites: chicken fried steak, grilled chicken, fish choices, meatloaf, etc. Selections rotate, I have had the meatloaf and chicken fried steak. Both were good, the chicken fried steak is deep fried, but it remains fork tender. And, it's a nice portion for lunch, not too big, but you won't leave hungry. The meatloaf is COVERED, and I mean covered, in a tomato based sauce with onions and peppers. I could use more seasoning in the sauce, but I liked having the veggies. Overall, the entrees I have had at Boulevard are simple, but made well. The side dishes are likewise classic and simple. After you select your side dish, you arrive at the desserts. Again, these are classics, nothing fancy here. You get a ticket and pay as you exit. If you are so inclined, they have a cash only line that goes quicker than the line that takes credit cards. Employees are constantly patrolling the dining room to bus trays or get you refills. Everyone I've encountered at Boulevard has been very friendly. Great service. In addition, Boulevard has a large parking lot, which is nice when you are here on your lunch hour so you don't have to go searching for parking. This place isn't reinventing the wheel, but they are putting our quality food at a reasonable price. Long live the classic cafeteria!

This great cafeteria style restaurant surprised me. Cafeteria style is not an option I usually chose but this family owned restaurant has been serving up quality dishes since 1943! I had spare ribs, cauliflower salad, cheese grits and pecan pie for dessert. Everything was fantastic!

Cafeteria style. Fast and friendly service. Everything looked tasty and I wanted to try it all. I ended up getting a lot: fried fish, Mac and cheese, deviled eggs, mash potato and gravy, side salad with blue cheese dressing, bread pudding, biscuit and raspberry Ice tea. Believe or not I ate every last bit! Wow the food was amazing even though my stomach couldn't take anymore food I just wanted to keep eating! I didn't care about price or calories. I spent a lot for a cafeteria meal. Between my dad and I we spent $30.00. I can't wait to go back this will be my first stop!

It's not from bad service. They were sweet as the strawberry shortcake my two minions and I devoured (which, yes, was the best part). And hey, I grew up in cafeterias. If you're looking for old-school decor and "down-home" feel, yeah, go ahead. Eat up. Don't expect much, but yeah. Dig in. But ... that's it. The menu is confusing and not always updated. The food is really salty and strangely gelatinous. It's ... you know ... a cafeteria. This is the lamest review I've written -- AND I GET THAT -- but ... meh? You don't go someplace like this and expect a mind-blowing meal. Unfortunately, though, my tastes are a little different than they were when cafeterias were an everyday thing for me. And now ... it's just ... Meh.

If you don't have family near, this is like having the next best thing. The food is all made there and it's fresh and delicious. They have good pie and coffee and while you stand in line to select and take your meal to a table, they keep your drinks refilled and help anyone in need to carry tray to seating. I've had their ham and it was moist and tender, and the fried chicken is delicious. A nice, crispy coating. The side dishes let you feast like it was a holiday. It's much like the good the good places that were more prevalent a decade or more in the past. We take our elderly friends because we know they'll enjoy it all. Where else can you get jello salads away from home?

I don't know why I thought I couldn't eat here as a vegetarian. In fact, it was just the opposite when I came here the other night. I was so excited about all the vegetarian options that I ended up buying (and eating) two veggie plates and a side salad and the best part about it is the food was wonderful and it was only $10 for a LOT of food. I had the pea salad, tomato relish, broccoli and cauliflower salad, chopped cauliflower salad, peas, mashed potatoes with white gravy, cheese grits, fried cauliflower and jalapeno cornbread. Okay I didn't want all of yelp to know I'm a fat ass, but I had icebox pie as well. Oh yeah and a little salad. WOW! That was a lot of food and it was all really delicious. So now I know that I can go to the boulevard and eat a lot of vegetarian food, plus it was all amazing. Another thing I like about the Boulevard, other than the fact that it is sentimental to me (my dad used to take me here as a child), is that all I have to do is walk in, get some food and eat. I don't have to wait for a server and I get to see the food before I decide if I want it or not. If it looks good, I'll get it, if it doesn't, I'll skip it and that right there is the beauty of cafeterias. The Boulevard has so many different options for everyone and about 8 million different desserts plus their menu rotates weekly and/or biweekly. The Boulevard is also in a great location and they are open for lunch and dinner. After my new-found discovery, I will probably eat here a lot more often.

The Missus and I decided to stop by here for brunch and were delightfully surprised at just how nice this place was. Sure, the decor was straight out of the late 70s, but the atmosphere was surprisingly quaint and the service was extremely friendly. (And besides...I love the decor from the 70s and 80s.) The food was nothing to write home about. It wasn't the best food I've ever eaten, but it certainly wasn't the worst. If I could describe the food, it would be, "good ol' home cookin." I say that, because I honestly felt that what I was eating was cooked at home, and not at a cafeteria. It was truly a unique and tasty dining experience. Overall, I was extremely pleased with all of my food...from the mac n' cheese to the fried chicken, from the fried eggplant to their warm yeast rolls. Boulevard might not blow you away with any specific dish that they serve, but they are sure to satiate your appetite with their great selection of food and affordable prices. They are definitely worth a visit if you're in area!

I forgot to post up my review for this place... The security guard is really on point. If you're not going to eat at the Bvld, don't park in their parking lot! The guard will be sure to tow your car! Don't say I didn't warn you. It's an old school cafeteria where you get in line, chose your food and then sit down. You pay before you sit down (CORRECTION- You actually pay once you leave. Sorry if this has offended you as some details escaped my memory) An older fella looked over at my co-workers and I in line and said it's the best food in OKC. Beg to differ a lil', sorry! I spent around 12 bucks and felt a little cheated. I got a bowl of veggies, roast beef with potatoes and a beverage. It tasted good, but the portions were a little small for me, especially for the veggies. *sigh But hey, if you haven't experienced this place, I suggest you at least try it out. Worth the people watching.

Forgetting that Cafe do Brasil was closed on Monday, we ended up having lunch here today. I have no idea why this isn't on my regular rotation. I had the sole meuriene with new potatoes, green beans, and a salad. My lovely dining companion had the fried chicken, cheese grits, cucumber salad. Oh and I had a tea. Grand total: $12.95. Boom! Cobra! The fish was great. Not Rococo's great, but really good for the price. They do have a vinaigrette dressing, you just have to ask for it! Otherwise it looks to be creamy creamy fatty fatty. But probably delish! My friend enjoyed his fried chicken, and I was frankly a little jealous. He's a trim dude so he can get by with eating fried chicken at 12:30 on a Monday. Short curvy gal, not so much! I was proud of myself for skipping the carby bounty that is the second half of the buffet! Oh man. Rolls, cornbread, pies, cakes, cobblers, pudding. Strawberry shortcake my true love and best friend, I walked right past ye. I'm sure I looked a little crazy walking past with my eyes scrunched shut. Tray rails come in very handy. You do have to overcome your completely rational and totally understandable panicky fear of carrying your tray to the table. Middle school will do that to a person. If you have a full on panic attack at the cash register they have nice guys who will take your tray to the table for you. Also, this place has a super cool vibe too. It's a sprawling place with many different rooms and it seems like it just goes on and on. It's all very midcentury. I want to have an early 1960s party here sometime. Elites - stay tuned! :) I'll definitely be back soon, as in, like possibly for dinner. Maybe for dinner I'll get that fried chicken...

Visiting okc. Stopped here. Had potato crusted cod it was delicious. People were super sweet. Love coming to Oklahoma many homestyled cooking like my grandma used to make. This place is exactly like that. Also love that they never renovated the inside. Its super cool. Pay attention to the register when you go it was a trip for me. I'm easily amused. I'll be back next time I'm in okc.

I just love this place and everything it stands for. It's the perfect taste of old-school Oklahoma to mingle with the octogenarian set after church on Sundays. One of those "where everybody knows your name" kinds of spots if you go frequently enough. Going through the line you feel like you've just zapped back in time a few decades where food wasn't complicated but it sure was tasty. Mac & Cheese and the mashed potatoes are true standouts. In fact all of the side items are delish, to the point where I often just opt to order the veggie plate. But you can't go wrong with their fried chicken either. And the rolls. Did I mention the rolls? Bliss. The decor is heartwarmingly dated and the old cash register when you check out (it's a "pay when you leave" kind of spot) is super cool as well. Best of all- they program constant live entertainment here. Live pianists and guitarists are a regular occurrence. But the best is when local radio personality and old-timer Dale Wehba brings his DJ act to the Sunday brunch crowd. He spins Glen Miller and Elvis Presley, waxing poetic about the antics of his youth that scored him interviews with many of the artists he idolizes. Answer one of his trivia questions correctly and you win a prize - including coveted gift certificates to Trolley Stop Record Shop - the family business. Next thing you know, you'll have whiled away a few hours and your tray will have been long empty. But it's worth it, well with it, for this little slice into the OKC of yesteryear.

Tasty treat sensation. Veggies were good and the fried sole was yummy. Eyes were definitely bigger than my stomach. Nice folks. It is warm in the dining area but not crazy. Great place for a good meal!

The Boulevard reminds me of a U.S. Army chow line, except it's not as good. I do like the fried chicken. The fish would be okay, but the tarter sauce is way too sweet. This is A Clean Well Lighted Place, so the wife and keep going, and the food is consistent, good or bad, so we know what to expect-- no surprises. Sincerely, Mel
